In a mother's womb were two babies.
The first baby asked the other: Do you believe in life after delivery?
The second baby replied: Why, of course. There has to be something after delivery. Maybe we are here to prepare ourselves for what we will be later.
Nonsense, said the first. There is no life after delivery. What would that life be like?
The second baby said: I don't know exactly, but there will be more light than here. Maybe we will walk with our legs and eat with our mouths.
The first replied: That is absurd! Walking is impossible. And eating with our mouths? Ridiculous. The umbilical cord supplies everything we need. Life after delivery can't exist—the umbilical cord is too short.
The second baby insisted: I think there is something beyond this, and maybe it's different than it is here. Maybe we won't need this physical cord anymore.
The first baby: Nonsense. And moreover, if there really is life after delivery, then why has no one ever come back from there? Delivery is the end of life. And in the after-delivery, it will be dark and we'll have no one to take care of us.
The second baby: Well, I don't know for sure, but I believe we'll see our mother and she will take care of us.
Mother the first baby laughed. You believe in a mother? Where is she then?
The second baby pointed: She's everywhere! She's all around us. We live inside her, we move because of her. Without her, this world wouldn't exist.
The first baby: I don't see her, so it's only logical that she doesn't exist.
To which the second replied: Sometimes, when we're quiet, we can feel her presence—her love surrounding us, holding us.
Then delivery came... The believing baby whispered: This is it... we're going to meet Mother.
One baby faces the next phase with fear and uncertainty and the other with hope.
How about you? When you pass to the next phase, death...will you be with hope or be with fear? With Christ, it is surely with hope and happiness.
